Appearance is one consideration. The roof slope, structural support, exposure, manufacturer requirements and local rules also affect suitability. Confirm which products are available for your project and review samples and written specifications before ordering. A heavier roof covering may require a separate structural assessment.

Define the assembly and responsibilities

Deck preparation: Identify the substrate and how unsuitable or damaged areas will be addressed.
Water-management details: Specify underlayment, roof edges, valleys, wall junctions, chimneys and other penetrations.
Ventilation: Assess the existing arrangement and identify any changes included in the installation.

Approvals: Establish responsibility for permits, inspections and any association review required for the property.
Site logistics: Plan deliveries, access, protection of the property, debris removal and cleanup.

Make changes traceable

The contract should distinguish the agreed work, optional upgrades and allowances for concealed conditions. Ask how findings will be photographed, priced and approved before additional work proceeds. Scheduling depends on scope, approvals, material availability, weather and access.

Completion, Care and Warranty Documents

At handover, review the completed scope and any outstanding items with the project team. Keep the product names, contract, photographs, care instructions and warranty documents together.

Manufacturer coverage and workmanship terms can have different durations, exclusions and eligibility requirements. Ask whether registration is required and whether labor, removal or disposal is included in a future warranty remedy. A product advertised with a lifetime warranty does not automatically provide lifetime coverage for every part of the installation.
