After a storm, make a wall-by-wall record of visible siding changes. A labeled photo of a cracked panel or displaced corner helps an assessor more than a general report that the house has storm damage. Stay on safe ground, keep away from loose materials, and leave roof, ladder, and concealed-wall access to qualified professionals.
Describe the change without assuming its cause
- Cracks or missing pieces: Identify the wall and approximate height, and show the surrounding area.
- Dents or surface marks: Note the siding material if known. A mark may affect appearance, function, or both.
- Loose or displaced sections: Photograph the position without pulling or pressing the material.
- Changed trim or corners: Include nearby windows, doors, and roof-to-wall connections in the overview.
- Water marks inside: Record the room, timing, and location, while recognizing that the entry point may be elsewhere.

Not every joint is a defect
Siding systems have product-specific overlaps, clearances, and drainage details. Do not assume every visible gap should be filled with sealant. Ask the assessor which detail is damaged and how it differs from the intended installation.
Likewise, a crack noticed after a storm does not by itself establish when it formed. Include any earlier photos, known repairs, or previous concerns so the assessment can consider the history honestly.
Build a useful photo record
For each concern, keep an overview photo, a safely obtainable detail, the wall location, the date first noticed, the material if known, and any associated interior symptom. Do not delay urgent safety work to collect evidence. Save receipts and photos of temporary protection when available.
If several walls are affected, label them consistently, such as driveway side or rear patio side. This makes it easier to compare the inspection report with the proposed work.

What the assessment should explain
Ask for the observed condition, likely cause where supportable, inspection limitations, and whether further access is needed. Exterior photos cannot confirm every concealed layer. Moisture concerns near a window or roof junction may require assessment beyond the siding panel itself.
Ask whether a localized repair can match and reconnect with the existing assembly, and what a larger scope would address. Our siding repair scope guide covers product matching, surrounding materials, and concealed conditions.
Arrange the next step
Contact USA Storm Roofing for siding repair or replacement planning in our listed service areas. Share your address and labeled observations. Keep clear of unstable sections and report active water entry when booking.
For a possible insurance claim, ask the insurer about reporting requirements, required evidence, and coverage. An inspection finding or repair estimate does not guarantee claim approval.
